He was born on May 2, 1889 in Yogyakarta with the name Raden Mas Soewardi Soerjaningrat. 3 After he was 5 years old or 40 years old, on February 25, 1928 to be exact, he changed his name to Ki Hajar Dewantara. He comes from the Yogyakarta royal family Ki Hajar Dewantara's education started from the Dutch elementary school (ELS), then continued at the Stovia medical school (Bumiputra Medical School).
